    How do I model what-if scenarios on a booking with Thynk's Scenario Modeller?

    By · Published · Updated

    Short answer

    Thynk's Scenario Modeller, on a booking's P&L tab, recalculates revenue, costs and profit as you model cost changes, attendee numbers, a selling price or a minimum gross profit. Nothing is written back to the booking, and you can save named scenarios to reopen, update or delete later.

    Full answer

    Thynk's Scenario Modeller lets sales and revenue teams answer questions such as "what happens to our margin if catering costs rise by 10%?" straight from the booking, without building a spreadsheet. It reads the booking as it stands and recalculates revenue, costs and profit as you type. Nothing you enter is written back to the booking, so you can test any idea safely.

    Open the booking, go to the P&L tab (your property may have renamed it) and scroll past the Cost Analyser to the Scenario Modeller. From there you can:

    • enter the increase or decrease you expect on any cost, for example guest room costs up by 35%;
    • adjust the overall Booking Revenue or the number of Attendees;
    • set a Selling Price and watch the rest of the picture update around it;
    • enter the minimum gross profit you need and see what it would take to reach it.

    Use Reset to start again. To keep a scenario, give it a name and click the disc icon to save it. Saved scenarios are listed at the bottom of the modeller, so you can reopen, update or delete them later and revisit the options you discussed with a client. If you don't see the P&L tab, your Thynk admin can ask Thynk Support to switch it on for your property.
