How do I create and issue a credit note in Thynk?

    By · Published · Updated

    Short answer

On a booking's Finance tab, set the Invoicing Document Type to Credit Note, choose to credit the entire invoice or specific lines, select the issued invoice, then issue the credit note or save it as a draft. Thynk copies and reverses the original lines, tax and totals and fills in the Credit To details automatically.

    Full answer

With Thynk's Invoicing module, finance and sales teams can credit an issued invoice in a few clicks from the booking itself. A guided wizard copies every line, tax amount and total from the original invoice and reverses it, so nothing has to be re-keyed. Invoicing is available for properties using VAT.

    To create a credit note:

    1. Open the booking's Finance tab, go to the Invoicing panel and set the Document Type to Credit Note.
    2. Choose Credit Entire Invoice to reverse every line automatically, or Credit Specific Lines to pick only the lines you need.
    3. Select the invoice to credit. Only issued invoices are listed, and invoices that already have a credit note are filtered out, so the same invoice can't be credited twice.
    4. Thynk fills in the Credit To account and contact automatically from the original invoice.
    5. Review the summary of lines, tax and totals, then click Issue Credit Note, or Save As Draft if you aren't ready yet.

Drafts can still be changed, while issued invoices and credit notes are locked, which keeps your financial records consistent and audit-ready. Follow your company's own procedures for payments, invoices and credit notes. If you don't see Invoicing on your bookings, your Thynk admin can contact Thynk Support to add the module.
