How are invoices broken down in Thynk, and how do payments update them?

    By · Published · Updated

    Short answer

Each Thynk invoice has an Invoice Breakdown showing invoice lines, detailed invoice items including package contents, and subtotals by VAT category, plus its own History tab and attachments. Payments recorded on the booking's Payments tab flow automatically into the invoice's Paid Amount field.

Thynk's Invoicing module keeps every invoice tied to its booking, with a detailed breakdown that also powers merge documents and finance reporting. Open an invoice from the booking's related tab (often called Payments) and select Invoice Breakdown to see three levels of detail:

    • Invoice Lines show the priced items on the booking at a high level, for example a package as a single line.
    • Invoice Items show the full detail, including what sits inside each package, so wines included in a package are listed separately from wines added as products.
    • Invoice Subtotals show the totals by VAT category. If a booking is set to No VAT, Thynk sets the VAT category and percentage on every item to 0 automatically.

Each invoice has its own History tab, so you can see what changed and when, and you can upload notes or files to the invoice for your team.

To record a payment, open the booking's Payments tab, click New in the Payments section, complete the fields and save. Every payment appears on the booking and flows automatically into the invoice's Paid Amount field. When the final payment is due, create an invoice with Invoice Type set to Final and bill either the full booking or just the remaining items.
